Frequently Asked Questions. UNDER DEVELOPMENT
1. Why should I buy beef from Beck Cattle Company and not just go to the local (chain) grocery store?
Our beef is higher quality and grown locally on farm raised grain and pasture grass. We select our steers and heifers based upon genetic traits that are known for producing quality, flavorful beef. We monitor and track our animals throughout the entire process, and can tell you exactly where each side and even each cut of beef is from. At the grocery store you do not know where that particular cut of meat came from or how it was treated or handled. Most grocery stores sell in volume and quality is not the top priority.
2. How do I purchase a side of beef?
The idea of buying a side of beef may seem intimidating or confusing at first, but it is actually a simple and rewarding process. Here is a brief list of the steps in the process:
A. Decide how much beef you would like.
Beef is typically sold by a quarter, half or a whole. An average half has a hanging weight of say 400 pounds. After processing you would likely take home around 250 of beef.
B. Once the animal is harvested, we will contact you with the hanging weight for your side of beef.
C. You pay us directly for the beef (typically via check), based upon the hanging weight. You pay the locker for the processing, at the time you pick-up the beef. (Typically 2-3 weeks after the harvest date)
D. Within a couple days of harvest, you will call the locker and go over your instructions. They will ask you a series of simple questions such as how thick do you want your steaks, do you want any roasts rolled, do you want ground beef in 1 pound or 2 pound packages, etc. The locker will assist you with common thicknesses and packaging.
E. The locker will contact you once your beef is processed, packaged and frozen. You will set-up a date and time to pick-up your beef. At the time of pick-up, you will be required to pay for the processing.
